Experienced in research management by publications since 2012 - related to sustainable soil management and assessment of soil health, soil degradation, soil properties, its spatial and temporal changes, soil formation factors and processes, geospatial data analysis and modelling. Furhtermore, research interests include the soil classification systems (e.g. World Reference Base for Soil Resources – WRB), data standartization and harmonization, soil monitoring, science to policy development etc. He is national coordinator in Latvia of the EU H2020 European Joint Programme SOIL: “Towards climate-smart sustainable management of agricultural soils”. Fellow of the International Union of Soil Sciences (from 2014), Executive Committee and Council of the European Society for Soil Conservation (from 2017), Quaternary Association of Latvia (from 2010), Soil Science Society of Latvia (from 2007). At this moment president of Soil Science Society of Latvia. Expert of Latvian Council of Science in Agricultural, Forestry and Veterinary Sciences – Agricultural Biotechnology, Nature Sciences - Earth Sciences, Physical Geography and Environmental Sciences. He is the author or co-author of 30 peer-reviewed publications indexed in SCOPUS, with an H-index of 12, furthermore characterized of 462 citations by 410 documents. Author and co-author as well as reviewer of some monographs, textbooks and popular scientific publications. At this moment he is supervisor of three doctoral thesis.
