Application of remote sensing technologies in orchard assessment Project leader Vivita Puķīte Team of project Armands Celms Duration 2019 - 2024 Research focus 4. Development and adaptation of technologies for obtaining high-value agricultural and forest products, as well as in veterinary medicine Source of funding National grant Project partners LPKS "Augļu Nams"SIA “GEO Development”Jolanta LuksaVita Celmiņa Description of project The aim of research To develop a technological solution appropriate to the environmental conditions of Latvia for the assessment of orchards and cereal crops using remote sensing technologies. The tasks of project: Using remote sensing technology to obtain data on tree growth dynamicsObtain data on tree crown density and total crown volumeBy analyzing the data, determine sectors with smaller growthsUse the obtained data to assess the effectiveness of tree formation works, correct calculations of plant protection product dosesDevelop a multilayer map Results A new technology has been created, because remote sensing with laser scanning has not yet been used in horticulture for the evaluation of crop plants. Laser scanning as a technology is sufficiently accessible, but the processing and interpretation of the obtained data for the evaluation of orchards is a new application in Latvia and neighboring countries. Laser scanning parameters have been developed (flight altitude, point density during scanning, route density). Georeferencing criteria appropriate for orchard evaluation have been developed to ensure a guarantee of accuracy and high reliability of data analysis even over a period of several years. As a result of the project, an interactive platform with multilayer maps has been created. The main beneficiaries of the project implementation are fruit and vegetable farms - primary producers.
