Development and testing of granulated biological fertilizer production technology under organic farming conditions Project leader Adrija Dorbe Duration 2019 - 2023 Research focus 3.Studies of the basic resources of the bioeconomy – land, soil, water – to ensure sustainable use and reduce pollution Source of funding National grant Project partners ECO lauks Ltd.; Cērpes Ltd; Krasti-B Ltd Description of project The aim of research is to develop a granulated biological organic fertilizer from cattle manure compost. The tasks of project: to create a granulated biological organic fertilizer and tested in a grassland and orchard compared to other organic fertilizers. Results Granulated cattle manure compost was produced, resulting in granules with a high dry matter content and a concentrated content of nutrients. Granules registered as a fertilizer (“ECO COMPO” granulas) in the State Plant Protection Service. Granules contain 87% dry matter, 1.5% nitrogen (N), 0.8% phosphorus (P₂O₅), and 2.4% potassium (K₂O). The produced granules comply with regulatory requirements, not exceeding the permissible levels of heavy metals and physical contaminants, and are microbiologically safe according to test results.Field trials were carried out in organic farms using the cattle manure granules developed during the project, comparing them with other organic fertilizers (cattle manure, compost and shredded compost — compost mass before granulating). Trials were conducted in perennial grasslands and orchards. The manure granules demonstrated a positive effect applied in grasslands and orchard fertilization.
