The impact of Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber L.) inundations on productivity of forest stand Project leader Linards Sisenis Duration 2019 - 2021 Research focus 3.Studies of the basic resources of the bioeconomy – land, soil, water – to ensure sustainable use and reduce pollution Source of funding Internal grant Project partners Meža pētīšanas stacija Description of project The aim of research To determine the extent to which Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber L.) inundations affect the growth dynamics and productivity of dominant tree species in Latvia (Scots pine, Norway spruce, and birch). The tasks of project: Collect radial wood samples from Latvia’s dominant tree species (Scots pine, Norway spruce, and birch) and analyze how cyclic groundwater fluctuations caused by beaver activity influence tree growth and productivityDevelop and defend a master's thesis titled "The Impact of Beaver Inundations on Forest Stand Productivity" Present research findings at conferences and publish them in conference proceedings Results Analyzed the impact of beaver-induced groundwater fluctuations on the growth dynamics and productivity of key tree species. Successfully completed and defended a master's thesis on the topic. Disseminated research findings through conference presentations and publications.
