Preservation of biological diversity in agro- and forest biocenoses, ecosystem protection and services E-mail aldis.butlers@silava.lv Telephone +371 26386458 Aldis Butlers, Ph.D., was awarded a Doctor of Science degree in Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries after defending his thesis “Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Influencing Factors in Forests with Undrained and Drained Nutrient-Rich Organic Soils.” Since 2011, he has worked at the Latvian State Forest Research Institute “Silava” (LSFRI Silava), where his roles have ranged from fieldwork to serving as Head of the Forest Environment Laboratory, overseeing technical operations and quality management. In 2024, his responsibilities expanded to include a dedicated research position focused primarily but not exclusively on ecosystem greenhouse gas and carbon balance studies. Since 2016, he has co-authored the annual Latvia’s National Inventory Report, and in 2019 he was certified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as a greenhouse-gas inventory expert for the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry sector.
