Assessment of Measures to Promote Forest Biodiversity Project leader Linards Sisenis Duration 2023 - 2023 Research focus 2. Preservation of biological diversity in agro- and forest biocenoses, ecosystem protection and services Source of funding Collaboration research Description of project The aim of research To characterize the effectiveness of specific biodiversity promotion measures in forests with different primary management goals (timber production or recreation), providing a foundation for future research and the development of fact-based recommendations to support balanced forest policy implementation at the European Union and Latvian levels. The tasks of project: Analyze the impact of forest stand structure on epiphyte diversity in broadleaf forestsConduct an inventory of biodiversity-significant elements in a recreational areaTest and apply methodologies for assessing microhabitats and other key biodiversity elements in Langervalde Forest (MPS Jelgava MN) and prepare informational materials for visitorsEvaluate the applicability of pyrophilous species in biodiversity conservation planning Results Identified the influence of forest stand structure on epiphyte diversity in broadleaf forests. Completed an inventory of biodiversity-important elements in a recreational area. Developed and tested a methodology for assessing microhabitats and other biodiversity elements, with findings documented for public awareness. Assessed the role of pyrophilous species in biodiversity conservation planning.
