Description of project

The aim of the project is to study and develop energy-efficient and economically justified technologies for the extraction (dehydration) of sapropel in Latvian conditions and to assess the suitability of using sapropel as a biologically active additive and soil fertilizer in agricultural sectors. 

To achieve the goal, several sub-goals have been set: 

1. development of a method for the dehydration of sapropel;
2. research on sapropel as a biological fertilizer and soil substrate products;
3. research on a biologically active sapropel feed additive in animal husbandry.

Use of sapropel in crop production and horticulture (in covered and open areas)
Use of sapropel as fertilizer in open areas in organic farming (wheat, potatoes and fodder beans, observing appropriate crop rotation)
Use of sapropel as fertilizer in horticulture
Use of sapropel in animal nutrition
Development of the form and dosage of a sapropel feed additive for use in animal nutrition
Feeding trial with calves
Feeding trial with broiler chickens
